What are inert ceramic balls? In which fields is it used? What is it used for?
Inert ceramic balls are a type of industrial ceramic packing balls mainly composed of chemical components such as aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide. It features high chemical stability, high-temperature resistance, wear resistance and high mechanical strength, and is widely applied in multiple fields, as follows:

The field of chemical engineering
Catalyst carrier: Inert ceramic balls can be used as the carrier of the catalyst, providing a larger specific surface area for the catalyst and enabling it to function more effectively. Meanwhile, it can withstand the high temperature and pressure during the reaction process, ensuring the stability and activity of the catalyst.
Supporting and covering materials: In chemical reactors, inert ceramic balls are usually placed at the bottom and top of the catalyst bed. When at the bottom, it can support the catalyst above, allowing gas or liquid to pass through the catalyst bed uniformly and preventing the loss and accumulation of catalyst particles. When placed at the top, it can serve as a covering layer to prevent the material from directly impacting the catalyst and play a protective role for the catalyst.
The field of petroleum refining
Application in hydrogenation reactors: In processes such as petroleum hydrorefining and hydrocracking, inert ceramic balls are used at the bottom and top of the reactors. The ceramic balls at the bottom support the catalyst bed, enabling hydrogen and oil to be evenly distributed and enhancing the reaction efficiency. The ceramic balls at the top prevent the materials inside the reactor from directly impacting the catalyst when entering, protecting the activity and stability of the catalyst.
Application in reforming reactors: During the catalytic reforming process, inert ceramic balls also play a role in supporting the catalyst and evenly distributing the materials. It can withstand the high temperature and pressure required for the reforming reaction, ensuring the smooth progress of the reaction and improving the quality and yield of the reforming products.
The field of environmental protection
Application in waste gas treatment: In some waste gas treatment devices, such as activated carbon adsorption towers and catalytic combustion devices, inert ceramic balls can be used as supporting materials to support adsorbents or catalysts, enabling waste gas to pass through the treatment layer evenly and improving the treatment effect of waste gas.
Application in sewage treatment: In the aeration tank of sewage treatment, inert ceramic balls can be used as fillers for aerators. They can increase the aeration area, ensure full contact between air and sewage, improve the efficiency of oxygen transfer, promote the degradation of organic matter and the growth of microorganisms in sewage, and thus achieve the purpose of purifying sewage.
